Suståne products yield performance in the field. Performance is based
on consistency. Quality assurance is the ongoing job to provide the best
products by all measures possible; and to maintain this consistency for
predictable and uniform results time after time.
Biological Testing
Suståne Quality Assurance begins with a biologically stable, yet
microbially active, compost. To meet internal and USDA standards Suståne
products undergo four separate tests to assure safety and stability:
- Continuous temperature monitoring from first aeration event through
final cooling. This provides the basis and record for knowing that each
lot has undergone thermophilic stabilization.
- The Solvita® Compost Maturity Index Test, which measures finished
compost for carbon dioxide (a measure of microbial respiration or
activity) and for ammonia content. On a scale of 1 – 8, Suståne rates very
stable: CO2 and NH3- of 6 and 5 respectively.
- The Dewar Flask Test, developed in Germany as a simple, reliable means
to determine relative compost maturity. The Dewar Method monitors
temperature changes over a 3-10 day time period. Suståne shows no increase
in temperature over a 5-day test
- US FDA Approved Laboratory testing for Product Safety: As result of
these testing methods for quality assurance Suståne product are allowed
for export / import worldwide.
