Fertilizer Spreader Calibration
- Fill spreader with new bag of fertilizer (or a known
weight).
- Run spreader a measured distance.
- Measure lateral spread.
- Pour remaining fertilizer back in bag and measure the
weight (or subtract difference).
The formula for pounds of fertilizer to apply is:
- Pounds per 1000 square feet = amount applied x 1000
- Distance length x lateral spread
Example:
Product: Sustane 10-2-10,
50 lb. bag
Suggested Rate: 10 lb. per 1000 square feet
Test amount applied: 6 lb. (step 4 was 50 lb. bag to begin with -
44 lb. remaining = 6 lb. applied)
6 lb. x 1000 = 6000 = 12 pounds per
1000 square feet
------------ ----
50’ x 10’ 500
Therefore you should close down the opening a little and
test again to get the 10 lb. per 1000 square feet suggested rate.
* These are the most recent settings we have received
from customers or in house testing. These settings are approximate and
intended as a guide only. Variations in the spreader condition, walking
speed and ground surface will require different settings.
** All Settings are calculated at 3 miles per hour
walking speed using the regular
mulch spinner.
