  • Late Season Fertilization Effects on Nitrate Leaching From Lawns

University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT 1996-1999
Department of Plant Science
Karl Guillard and Kelly L. Kopp

Conclusion - "There is greater potential for nitrate (NO3) loss to ground water with soluble N-based fertilizers than with slow-release Suståne organic fertilizers when applied in the late-season to lawns in southern New England."

  • Alternative Controls of Turf Anthracnose

University of California-Riverside, 1994
Nigel Grech, Howard Ohr, Steve Campbell

Conclusion - "Generally conventional fungicides produced lower disease as compared to the biological treatments. Sustane treatments of 5-2-4 Natural Organic and Suståne 5-2-4 + Fe Natural Base fertilizers were the exception. These products finished number 2 and 4 respectfully out of 24 treatments, with Daconil finishing at number 1 with only a slightly higher score. Sustane treatments were not significantly different than Daconil."

  • Reduced pesticide approaches towards the control and management of summer decline of mixed stands of annual Bluegrass (Poa annua L.) and Bentgrass (Agrostis sp.) in coastal California golf courses

University of California-Riverside, 1996
Nigel M. Grech, Howard Ohr, Steven Campbell, Ray Festa, and Tom Massey

Conclusion - "From a total of ninety-seven treatments, we have screened over the last three seasons, we report here on products that have resulted in disease ratings below 0.5 over the course of the season. Two of the eight are Suståne products."

  • Evaluation of Suståne Organic Fertilizers on Tifgreen 328 and Tifdwarf Bermudagrass

Louisiana State University, 1992
Allen Owings, Ph. D.

The objective of this study was to evaluate season-long performance based on weekly evaluation of quality and color of a Suståne (Natural Fertilizer of America, Inc. Cannon Falls, MN) organic fertilizer program in comparison to sulfur coated urea and uncoated urea on ‘Tifgreen 328’ and ‘Tifdwarf’ bermudagrass.

  • The Effects of Humate and Organic Fertilizer on Establishment and Nutrition of Creeping Bentgrass Putting Greens

North Carolina State University, 1995
Dr. Charles Peacock, Stephen Dorer

Improvements in germination and percent cover were largely due to the (Suståne) natural organic fertilizer treatment, although the organic fertilizer contributed only an additional 0.10 lb. N per 1,000 ft.², applied just one time, pre-plant at the beginning of the study.  Improvements in turf quality were due largely to the treatments with organic fertilizer.
